With only 1 month to go until my first play I have directed this year, I think it's about time I update this blog with the new changes and new projects I am working on!
I started my MA in Directing at Bath Spa University by working on Our Country's Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker. I was fortunate to be the assistant director to Kirstie Davis on this Bath Spa Productions project. Being in the room with a very experience director such as Kirstie was so beneficial and such a privilege to see her work with the actors and production team.
Straight onto the next project!
I created and directed a short piece of entertainment for an event at the Roman Baths, in Bath. The piece was a mixture of poems and scenes based around the theme of Christmas and was performed by 12 BA Acting students from Bath Spa.
This was what I have been dreading to do for the MA; the research module. Not because I don't enjoy researching, I do it everyday for the projects I am working on. But, it's doing the write up of the research. Fortunately, this module was primarily a presentation with a smaller amount of essay writing! Result! I was researching Live Broadcast theatre and the mediated nature of the art form. Titled, 'Theatre Broadcasts are a lie'! What a fun full-filing module in the end.
I 'Loves Labour's Lost' my mind!! - Performing at the Globe.
Oh I have missed acting!
With the other MA Directors, Performing Shakespeare and Classical Actors we got to perform Loves Labour's Lost at the Globe Theatre. Directed by Joanne Howarth and with masterclasses in voice, movement, dance, shakespearean history, text by the best of the best in the industry. Such an incredible 2 weeks. It's amazing to think I have had the opportunity to perform on both the world's greatest Shakespearean stages!
That brings me to my current project!
For SparkFest 2019 I was directing a production of Constellations by Nick Payne but due to an issue with rights I am now working on a production of Radiant Vermin by Philip Ridley! I'm so excited to share this with the public, it's going to be mental! Keep updated on the project through my Instagram (nik_aarre) Twitter (@nikaarre) and facebook page!
